HONORS ALGEBRA 1 WEEK OF JANUARY 26TH--SURVIVOR ALGEBRA! UPDATED 1/28/15

MONDAY: Systems "quest" of the various methods for solving systems. You will take your quiz during the first hour of class. Next, you will break into your "tribes", choose a name for your tribe and prepare your tribal mask. You will also receive a handout where you will begin writing systems of equations to solve problems. HOMEWORK: complete the handout. You will have time to collaborate with your tribes on Wednesday, so don't panic! DO your best to complete the assignment as homework points for "completion" will be given on Wednesday.

REVISION DUE TO DISMISSAL ON WEDNESDAY: I sent all of you a document via email on Tuesday. That assignment needs to be completed by MONDAY. I sent all of you an email today with the systems that will work for problems 2-5 from Monday's handout that was originally due today. PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS! I've also posted a video to help with writing systems to solve problems. CLICK on my name to the right of my blog and click on "posts" and you will find the video. There are others that you will be able to access on youtube once you've seen this one.

The quiz has been moved to Wednesday, February 4th. My help night will be MONDAY for anyone who wants help preparing for the quiz. Read the handout that I sent you on Tuesday for details on the quiz.

Averages on Monday's "quest" as reported by using the tribe leaders name:

Gina's tribe: 20.8
Hannah S. : 22.3
Mackenzie: 16
Megan: 19.3
Hannah M.: 21
Brianna: 22.5 *****

Brianna's tribe has been awarded 5 points. Since Hannah S's. tribe was only .2 away from the highest average, I have awarded her tribe 2 points.

How to earn points for your tribes:

1/26: highest (tribe) average on the "quest"

1/28: homework completion points; points for accurately completing the problems

2/2: points for accurately completing the homework; highest (tribe) average on the quiz; and             the mumball tournament

PRIZES: 1st place: 10 bonus points + treat
                 2nd place: 5 bonus points

PLUS CLASS HOMEWORK FOR 1-16-15 DUE TUESDAY, JANUARY 20TH

ALL PLUS CLASS STUDENTS: You have two things to complete over the 3-day weekend. First, make sure that you understand the work that we've done with one and two-step inequalities. That means review it! Your test on inequalities is scheduled for FRIDAY the 23rd.

Second, you have a chapter 5 extra practice worksheet that needs to be completed. Put your answers on the worksheet and show your work on a separate sheet that you will attach to the worksheet. Your work needs to be NEAT and thoughtfully done to demonstrate accuracy and understanding. That means refer to your notes, previous work and visit websites (if you need to) for further review. You can ALWAYS access instructional videos on youtube or khanacademy by putting the topic in the search bar.

This assignment is GRADED and MUST be submitted on Tuesday or it cannot be counted toward your mid-term grade since mid-term is the 21st. If you are absent, I will not be able to count it unless someone is able to bring your assignment to school.

HONORS VIDEO FOR HELP WITH #11-12 ON TODAY'S PRACTICE WORKSHEET (1-5-15)

https://www.khanacademy.org/video/graphs-of-absolute-value-functions

Click on the link for the video and use the method in the video to find the vertex of the absolute value graph. Once you find the vertex, use a table to find one more point and then reflect that point over the vertex. This will work for #11-12 on Monday's practice. I tried using the slope and that didn't work.

PLUS CLASS FIRST WEEK OF THE NEW YEAR

MONDAY: we revisited section 5.1 (writing equations) and we started section 5.2 and covered examples 1 and 2. Class practice came from section 5.2 and correlated with those two examples. Your homework is section 5.2 exercises 17-22. You received a class participation/accuracy grade for your work at the board today.

TUESDAY: we will review the homework and practice writing equations when we are given the slope and one point, two points on the line and from the graph of a given line. This practice will come from worksheets, so if you are absent, email me for that material.

WEDNESDAY: we will write equations in point-slope form (section 5.3). Class practice: page 305 3-12 and 20-28. Homework: practice worksheet.

THURSDAY: we will review the homework and then you will have a QUIZ on sections 5.1 through 5.3.

FRIDAY: I will return your quiz and we will discuss the results. If you failed the quiz, you will bring it with you when you work with Ms. Eckendorf on Monday and review/correct your mistakes. We will work with standard form, and parallel and perpendicular lines with respect to writing equations. Practice problems will be on the back of Wednesday's worksheet. Homework: page 314 11-16 and page 322 3-8 and 18-23. Show all work neatly in your notebook.

MY HELP NIGHT IS WEDNESDAY IN ROOM 118 3:00-3:40.

HONORS ALGEBRA WEEK OF JANUARY 5TH 2015

MONDAY: Happy New Year! You will be working with an assigned partner this week. You will begin by watching a video on parent functions and transformations relative to the absolute value function. You can access the video by clicking on my name to the right of my blog. TAKE NOTES while watching the video so that you can remember key points. Next, you and your partner will work on practice problems. You will have a key to check your answers so that you know you are on the right track. We will finish the class with a review on graphing inequalities in two variables and you will have a practice worksheet for homework. You will need your iPad and ear buds.

Note: some of you have to make up the Chapter 6 test. You need to do that at the MATH LAB tomorrow (Tuesday). The teacher running the lab will have your test. Make sure that you are there by 3:15.

WEDNESDAY: We will review your homework and the results of the chapter 6 test. Next, you will work with your partner on graphing systems of inequalities. Practice problems will be completed and checked in class. You will have a practice worksheet for homework that will be an extension of Monday's lesson. You and your partner will be able to start that in class. BRING COLORED PENCILS TO CLASS!

FRIDAY: We will review your homework (briefly) and you and your partner will take a PARTNER QUIZ on this week's material. If your partner is absent, you will each have to take it on your own, so please be there! After the quiz, you will be assigned an extra practice worksheet that is a cumulative review of some of the work that we've done this year. That worksheet is due TUESDAY. Please read and follow the directions for completing this. We will start systems of equations on Tuesday.
